What to Expect During the Claims Process

Step 1: Give us a call.

If you think you may need to file a claim, start by reaching out to our office. We can talk through the situation, discuss your options, and even go over whether it makes sense to get an estimate before filing.

Step 2: File the claim.

Once a claim is filed, the insurance company will assign an adjuster to your case. It usually takes 24-48 hours for the adjuster to contact you.

Step 3: Prevent further damage.

If your property has damage, take reasonable steps to protect it from getting worse. Save all receipts for materials or temporary repairs – these may be reimbursable.

Step 4: The adjuster’s inspection.

The adjuster will inspect the damage, review your coverage, and prepare a settlement estimate.

Step 5: Claims payment.

When a check is issued, it may be made payable to both you and your mortgage company or lienholder. This means you’ll need to coordinate with your lender to get the funds released. Each lender has their own process, so it’s important to ask what documents they require.

Step 6: Complete repairs.

Once the funds are released, you can proceed with repairs. Keep copies of all invoices and communications for your records.
